Details:
Dresden Sky's core duo is Erin Gignac and Marc Bertrand, two talented and versatile artists whose contemporary approach to folk music is as invigorating as it is innovative. A shared interest in the creation and performance of music unites the two young artists, and an interest in its exploration drives their musical career. Together they create melodic songs from the sweetly ethereal to the slightly warped, often featuring beautiful male-female harmonies.

Gignac and Bertrand have been playing together for just over two years, but Dresden Sky displays the savvy of old professionals with over two decades of combined musical experience.

Singer-songwriter Erin Gignac, an Emeryville, Ontario native, provides vocals, piano, and guitar. Having shared stages with Wild Strawberries and Veda Hille, Gignac's professional edge comes from three years of classical piano study at Cambrian College in Sudbury. She also has experience in several Sudbury ensembles including The Cambrian Jazz Ensemble, The Cambrian Choir, The Vintage Plague, Orange Skies, and others. Gignac's self-titled debut album was released in 2002 to much critical acclaim. Mark Rheaume of CBC Radio Toronto praised the album as "a musically sparkling effort . . . definitely one of the finest indie releases to come this way in the last few years." The disc has been featured on CBC Radio programs from coast to coast, including Regina's Mighty Shores, Toronto's Fresh Air, and Ottawa's Window of Opportunity. CBC and college play is only part of the album's success: The Art Gallery of Windsor used two of Gignac's songs for video portraits on Joan Murray and her involvement with the Group of Seven.

Marc "Birch" Bertrand, originally from Amherstburg, Ontario, is the guitarist/vocalist in the duo. A long-time web designer, Bertrand's own project, naturallyatrest.com, began as a forum for political and philosophical discussion. This tied into his weekly radio show of the same name on radioKAOS. Bertrand's political-mindedness adds an important flavour to Dresden Sky; both Gignac and Bertrand are songwriters, and Bertrand's often more political contributions counterbalance Gignac's mainly personal lyrics. Gignac admits, "I usually write about myself, while Marc writes about everyone else." Bertrand has also been in his fair share of local bands, including such groups as Gus Trio, the more, and Spinning Fools.

Although Gignac and Bertrand are the core of Dresden Sky, other musicians ranging from drummers to vocalists to brass players often join the duo in the studio and on stage. Recent performances in Windsor, Ontario have garnered the band praise, with Upfront Magazine lauding, "The musical rapport between Bertrand and Gignac is absolutely magnetic, which makes for an almost disarmingly comfortable listening experience."
