A CD like this only comes around every 5766 years!

Straight out of Oakland, California, "Hip Hop Shabbat" is a Jewish Shabbat service set to the beat of hip-hop, dub, and electronic music. The album contains all of the prayers necessary for a Friday night observance of the Sabbath, starting with the lighting of the Shabbat candles, and concluding with the breaking of challah bread and Passover bonus tracks. This hiphop service was inspired at the University of Oregon Hillel, where Doctor J attended Shabbat services during college.

"Hip Hop Shabbat" is performed by Dr.J Money, along with featured singer Elana Jagoda, Sam Smeeze, Butter, and Beneezie, all members of the Original Jewish Gangsters, a long time group of Jewish friends from Oakland, California. The album was independently produced by the OJGs in Oakland and recorded in Richmond at Blaque Index Productions. The OJGs are committed to social justice and portions of their profits go to social organizations helping to bring love and equality. The music in Hip Hop Shabbat is spiritual for people of all ages and spreads the message of universal love through the celebration of Shabbat.
