I got really interested in music when I discovered that our new school had band instruments. Seeing, then holding, one of those shiny brass musical instruments to me was like holding Aladdin's Lamp. Magic. I still feel the same today, when holding a musical instrument. Over the years I have played in brass, Airforce bands, dance/concert, and a jazz band.

Most people envision a composer sitting at a large piano or some type of large keyboard, like in the movies, playing a few notes then writing them on a manuscript. My keyboard rests on my lap, or on a small table beside me. It's less then 24 inches long and 7 inches wide, and weighs about 2.5 pounds. It's portable and can also play using batteries. Yes, that's right, batteries. I plug in my headphones so as not to disturb anyone. In the spring, summer or fall, I can sit under the trees in my garden, in a park, or by a lake and do my composing using my little keyboard.

I am fortunate that when the music for a song comes into my head, the lyrics often follow quite quickly. When I'm done I sing the song through a few times, making corrections, finding the right key and setting the tempo. The song is then ready for the next stage of production.

I have always loved trying to create things. Over the years i have designed and crafted many home wood products, and have also spent many hours cooking healthy, good-tasting recipes, so my wife tells me anyway. Let's just say that trying to be creative is my enjoyment.

I owe many thanks to Tim Foley (great keyboarding), Ken Gorin, whom I have known for many years through barbershop and his singing engagements, and, of course, Jimmy Roland, who is a great singer. I feel, altogether, they enhanced the work on my first CD, "Easy Listening Music", more than I could have imagined.
