Squaring the circle, a problem once thought solveable by many a philosopher and mathematician, has become a metaphor of impossibility. In 1882, this mathematical problem was proven to be impossible. However, prior to that, many had attempted in vain to square the circle. Some even thought that they had solved this enigma of antiquity. Time was wasted; hopes were dashed; the problem was never solved - nor will it ever be.

So why did I name this album âSquaring The Circleâ? Because there have been times when I have found myself, as these men of old, tarrying in fruitless endeavors and pursuing the impossible. Whether seeking fleeting knowledge or trying to solve the problems of an unrelenting world, I too have spent countless hours attempting to âsquare the circleâ. The older I get, the more I realize that some knowledge, some problems, some questions, are unattainable; unsolvable. Sleepless nights, anxious thoughts, vain pursuits - these are the fruits of squaring the circle; these are the fruits of trying to do the undoable!

Time is precious and so is knowledge, but time well spent is of more value than all the knowledge in the world. Knowledge will remain; we will not. The problems of the world, they too will remain. As we sit back and watch the horrors unfold around us (genocide, war, death, disease, famine), we realize how helpless we really are when it comes to setting change in motion. Unfortunately, the only thing we can change about the world is our attitude toward it.

Enjoying family, spending time with my boy, reaching out to friends, listening to music, reveling in art and a festive spirit; this is time well spent for me! So from me to you, I hope this album can touch your life and mind, if only in the smallest of ways. May it be a reminder to let go of that which we cannot change; to let go of that which we cannot grasp; and to simply enjoy life...while it lasts!
