ROCK: Folk Rock, POP: Quirky
Details:
Paul Cohn AKA Dr. Stone started his somewhat remarkable life in 1958 in Western New York. Paul was blessed to be the third child of five, a somewhat picture perfect example of all that is good, especially creatively, about middle children. Growing up in the 60's and 70's in New York, and being from a somewhat affluent family with good, kind, and fairly progressively thinking parents, young Paul was enabled to explore art and literature pretty much on his own terms. From a rather young age it became clear that he had the ability to capture life in all its wondrous manifestations and write about it, immortalizing people, places and things in tones that ranged from serious to uproariously irreverent. I would not be uncomfortable comparing Cohn's literary style to Norman Rockwell's artistic style in its formative stages; serious, while at the same time comical and poignant in its analysis of the human condition. These bits of prose and poems eventually made their way into songs as Paul learned, in his teens, to play the guitar and sing.
For the better part of the last decade, Paul has made his home in South Beach, Miami's heaven on earth. The people, places and experiences of life in South Beach have been like fertilizer to a plant for the good Doctor, or perhaps more accurately, gasoline poured onto a fire. Cohn has found limitless material of relevance for his lyrics. In his latest work, "SOBE it!" due for release later this month, there are several worthwhile examples: from poignant "Amnesia" to pointed "Right To The Bottom", we are reminded that everything is sacred and at the same time, nothing is sacred. It is always refreshing to watch an artist of any discipline mature. I will be very interested in the public's reaction to Cohn's latest stories of life, love, and general mayhem from South Florida.
