Details:
When I was in my 20s, I used to play the coffeehouse circuit in New York Cityâs Greenwich Village and beyond â the Other End, Top of the Gate, Mills Tavern, the Night Owl, etc.
Then came family - three children - and jobs. So the songwriting and the coffeehouse singing stopped for a while.
In 1997, the Starving Artist was born on City Island, New York. At that time, it was a gallery â a showcase for my handmade jewelry creations and the fine art / fine craft of artisans, many local to City Island and most my friends.
In 2004, the Starving Artist evolved, adding music to the âmenuâ and becoming a coffeehouse. Life had come full circle. With great support from those three children â Joshua, Jennifer, and Arielle â now plus one â Hannah â and my current wife Monica, brother-in-law âUncle Billâ Yehle and good friend Marion Rosenfeld, songs were written again. These compositions were no doubt inspired by the many great music-artists who have taken the stage at Starving Artist, and surely by the legends of music that I have loved and listened to â like Bob Dylan, John Lennon, the Beatles and the like.
Eventually, I took the stage once again, at my own café / gallery, in October 2006. Iâve performed at Starving Artist several times more since then, and even done gigs outside that location.
âIâve Been Toldâ is my second CD in 2007. Each song has a story. âBlue Tomorrowâ is for all the creative people stuck in the work-a-day world! Thereâs a song to the voices in my head â â!â â and one to the one in my heart â âA Fatherâs Blues.â Two songs have been featured on Neil Youngâs âLiving With Warâ web site since July 2007, remaining always in the top 150 of the more than 2,300 songs â âBaby, This Oneâs For Youâ and âBitter Tears.â
In addition to my family, I am most grateful to all who offer me their love, support and inspiration. Gratefully in my life, that latter list is extensive and growing.
