Darlene Smith Jackson is a native of Portsmouth, VA. She is a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Portsmouth, VA,
where the pastor is Dr. William S. Hampton.
She sings in the Voices Of Calvary as well as being a member of the Willing Workers Ministry.
Darlene is a singer, songwriter, producer, and musician. She recently won Hampton Roads Rising Gospel Stars on 94.1 F.M. The winning song was "Come On And Rescue Me". She has appeared on a local TV program called Spread A Little Sunshine, done several performances for singing group anniversaries, as well as hosting her very own radio broadcast on WPCE 1400 AM titled "Jesus Is The Light Of The World" radio broadcast. Her theme song for the broadcast is included on the CD "I Have To Rejoice". It is titled "Jesus Is The Light". Darlene sings all lead and background vocals. She was assisted by her great-neice Shannon Hicks who helped sing background vocals on Jesus Is The Light, Lord, We Worship You (remix), and I Thank You Lord (remix). Darlene also played all of the music on her songs.
She majored in music at Old Dominion University and received a B.S. in Secondary Education-Instrumental Music. She is a former music teacher for Portsmouth Public Schools and is currently employed by AIG/American General as an associate manager.
Darlene believes that the Lord gave her the ministry of music to touch both the saved and unsaved. She is not ashamed to tell of the goodness of the Lord and what the Lord will do for others. She is a born again Christian who believes that she can do anything through Christ who strengthens her.
Her music is fresh. All of her songs are original and she has a style all her own. Darlene uses various combinations of styles in her music. In the title song, "I Have To Rejoice" Darlene uses a combination of rapping and singing with a strong horn section and pulsating beats. This song will have you rejoicing as well. "When The Lord Saved Me" will make you clap your hands and stomp your feet.This song has a quartet feel to it. If praise and worship is what you want to do, then "Lord, We Worship You" and I, Thank You Lord (remix)are songs that give praise and worship to God just for who he is. "God Is Standing By" is a song of encouragement.It has a touch of R&B. All of the songs minister to the heart as well as the soul.
