The Bottleneck, in Lawrence Kansas-the club from which emerged Paw, Stick and Frogpond...host joint for Butthole Surfers, Burning Spear and Lucinda Williams- was also the first stage for Distance To Empty, a melodic Lawrence rock band with a touch for three-part harmonies and eclectic instrumentation.

That was October 2002. One immediate result was a weekly gig at a brewpub in Lawrence. Within three months, radio stations in Lawrence and Kansas City were starting to spin us. The wave's still growing, what with a first cd released in May 2004 (outletted by Amazon.com, Cdbaby.com and Tower Records) and a first tour of the Midwest the following summer.

Distance To Empty is for the dancer inside you, the one yearning to break free. We play upbeat melodic rock. Or should we say, jazz-influenced pop rock? You name it. Audio samples are a click away.

We're a basic guitar-bass-drums-singer configuration with a mandolin or violin thrown in now and again. Our demographic: the 14-30 crowd and anyone else who wants to shake. We've shared stage with Midwest favorites Anything but Joey, Grasshopper Takeover, Shaking Tree, The Architects and Abileen.
