Details:
Born in rural New Brunswick,Canada,This artist has been a respected performer in Canadas east coast music scene for over four decades. An established performer,he was inducted into New Brunswicks Country Music Hall of Fame in 1994.Upon retiring as a Forest Ranger he began focusing his energy on songwriting and some have been played internationally since his first release in 2003.His songs are best described as story videos as they paint a picture with words. This album is no exception. Songs mostly about times in general of present and past. This ,his third album,"In the Name of Progress", follow the albums, "Memories of Mine", released in 2003, and "Home ", released in 2007.A bit about this album...(1)"In the Name of Progress"-is about the places within a fifty mile radius of the Belleisle valley where I was born and raised. How they are cutting and spraying and digging our beautiful lands in the name of growth and progress. Progress being the greed of a few and growth the destruction for many.Although still beautiful, if the next fifty years are the same as the last fifty, I would hate to see the results(2)"Looking Back"-about the little valley and fields and homes which are no more, where I roamed as a boy.(3)-"North Wind Blowing"-came from a story my old grand father Matt Scarlett told me as a lad, about his days as a cowboy in Arizona and Utah. One of his friends was never seen again after starting home at the end of a cattle drive. This song is based on that story.See the album "Memories of Mine" and the song "Folks of Yesterday",also the album"Home" and the song "The Guardian".(4)"I'll be with You"-a song for my little grand son and grand daughter, also for all little ones. My little grandson at the age of two helps me finish the song ending.(5)-"The Lumber Camp"-About a hard way of life on the east coast in the early part of the century. My father was one of these lumbermen, trying to make a living for a large family.(6)-"The Fiddle"-Just a story that I would like to believe could happen.(7)-"Bull Moose Hill"-a fiddle tune I wrote and named after one of the beautiful hills in Belleisle where I live.I am honoured to have Kim Matheson on the fiddle and her husband Jeff do my tune for me as I am not much of a fiddler.(8)"The Auction"-When people leave this earth they leave behind all the things they have gathered through life. They usually have an auction. At times it can be quite touching.(9)-"Bonny George"-The true story about a cousin of mine who wondered how he got a race horse so cheap, not finding why out until he got him warmed up in a race. I was there as a boy.(10)-"The Dream"-Many older folks and some not so old often sit out on their porch and dream. It would be nice if things like this happened.(11)"The Ninth Inning"-My gospil song comparing life here on earth to a ball game.(12)-"Our Heroes"-A song honouring all the armed forces, police officers, fire fighters and all involved in helping people around the world and who lay their life on the line to help keep the world a safe and better place to live.We may not always agree with our political decisions, however it is the people doing the work that we need to support, regardless.I hope this album like my others brings a smile ,a tear and many happy memories. Thanks to you who buy and support my music. Randy Vail
