Two generational tenor players' contribution to modern jazz, with original compositions and creative improvisation.

7 MP3 Songs
JAZZ: Bebop, JAZZ: Traditional Jazz Combo

Details:
The second album by Portland saxophonist Dusty York finds him again playing with Keith Brush on bass and Ken Paine on drums, performing six of his compositions and one by Portland tenor player Sam Burton. The trio expanded into a quartet by adding York's father Michael York to the group, giving it the unique aspect of having two generations of tenor players in the same group. Michael is a long time Portland favorite, having played with virtually everyone associated with Portland jazz, including a long stint with the Mel Brown Sextet. The quartet has been performing Dustys' compostions all over town, soon to expand to other cities, as well as more recordings with Diatic Records. They feature a certain intensity obtained from all members of the group as well as the unique interplay of the generational tenors, one a long standing practitioner of saxophone excellence, and the other quickly forging his own place in the idiom.
