Tom Burnett is a teaching artist who, since 1986, has been facilitating programs for young children that nurture their inherent creative impulses through music and creative art. He is currently Director of Early Childhood Programs at the Children's Museum of the Arts in Soho, New York City. In that position, from 1998 to the present, he has developed the museumâs âWee Artsâ into a popular, widely recognized model for early childhood programming.

Tom has pioneered outreach programs to many community centers, libraries,and youth/parent organizations, offering developmentally appropriate music and art experiences for thousands of families throughout the tristate area. For the past three years he has shared his skills with the staff, parents, and children in the New York City Department of Education public school system's LYFE (Living for the Young Family through Education) program, which supports teenage parents and enables them to continue their education while caring for their children.

As a specialist in working with children age one through four, Tom has taught in preschool and early childhood programs, including Discovery Programs, the Educational Alliance, Rhinelander Childrenâs Center, the Teachers College Columbia University center for gifted youth and Public schools 1,2,110,137,and 64. From 1989 to 2000, he was on staff at the 92nd Street Y, where he served as head teacher for "Red, Yellow, Blue and Glue," an integrated arts and music program for children two-and-a-half to three-and-a-half years old, and started the "Busy Fingers, Busy Feet" program for the Y's Parenting Center. In addition, he has performed art classes and music time at hundreds of birthday parties, for a broad range of clients that include David Bowie and Annie Leibowitz.

Tomâs CD of traditional and original music "Hey Everybody, It's Music Time!" Vol. 1 is a very special introduction to the basic elements of music for children. Based on a deep understanding of childrenâs experiences, âMusic Timeâ presents an authentic style that speaks directly to the sensibilities of young children which invites and allows them to embrace the joy of listening, interacting, and singing at their own pace. This CD is currently featured at Giggle stores in New York, Connecticut, and California.

"Hey Everybody, It's Music Time!, Volume 2" is in production and will be released this holiday season. This edition, created for children two to four years old, builds on the concepts introduced in the first CD through original songs about color, drawing, painting, animals, and the fact that learning to take turns is actually fun. The CD will also feature a smattering of classic songs with some original and unique twists.
