Growing up in Richmond, Virginia, Emily Easterly's discovery of the Beatles is what first inspired her to learn the guitar at age nine and write songs at the age of twelve. Now primarily influenced by such artists as Cat Power, Aimee Mann, PJ Harvey, early Liz Phair and Sparklehorse, her songwriting has definite twinges of her indie influences while still appealing to a wide variety of listeners. Her voice is reminiscent of unassuming singers such as Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders and Aimee Mann, displaying a kind of restraint and understatement but in a powerful way. Her wispy, weathered vocals have light texture which sound confidently timid.
Emily graduated with a degree in classical guitar from the University of Miami in the School of Music. While in school, she released two albums, 2001's "Assembling Emily" and 2002's "Cole". Both albums were recorded at Sound of Music Studios in Richmond, VA and were engineered by Alan Weatherhead (Sparklehorse, Cracker, Clem Snide) and co-produced by Miguel Urbitztondo (Maki, Koester). In the spring of 2002, "Cole" charted on the CMJ (College Music Journal)'s top 200 radio charts as one of few self released albums.
During her last year at Miami in 2005, "Seasons Never Change" was recorded in Miami Beach, FL at the Laundry Room Studio by producer Frank "Rat Bastard" Falestra. "Seasons Never Change" shows a departure from the previous releases. It focuses less on production and more on Emily's voice and the songs themselves. It features nine new songs that were all inspired by her four year stay in the city of Miami.
