EASTERN SON is an ongoing genre-blending studio project, conceived, performed, and recorded by Dave Benton, and featuring some veteran Madison, WI musicians in supporting roles.
The music is a collection of melodic instrumentals, electronic soundscapes, and small dub experiments. It crosses genres including Progressive, Electronic, Free Jazz, and Instrumental Rock.
Dave Benton is a veteran Madison. WI musician who spent the 1980's and early 90's playing with the Pop/Rock group Spooner (Chameleon Records), the band that also featured Butch Vig and Duke Erikson, who went on to great success with Garbage. Following his years with Spooner, Dave played with the popular Madison Surf Instrumental combo The Waterdogs.
The other musicians who contribute to this album are;
Andy Ewen, guitarist for the Progressive Blues band Honor Among Thieves.
John Hauser, bass guitar player for The Waterdogs, as well as Paul Black & The Flip Kings.
Joel Tappero, former Spooner bass guitarist.
Hanah Jon Taylor, renowned and respected Madison/Chicago axis Free Jazz tenor sax player.
