Show all album songs: The Solo Sessions 1988-1992 Volume 2: Cabaret Vieux Carre Songs
Details:
These songs are taken from 3 different solo recording sessions done in New Orleans and Monroe, Louisiana between 1988-1992. Each session was only a few hours long. The songs were recorded âliveâ in the studio in one take. As soon as one song was performed/recorded- and checked by the engineer- he went on to the next one; his preferred way of recording⦠and performing. These recordings are as close to a live Doug Duffey solo concert as you can get.
Doug Duffey is one of Louisianaâs premier singer/songwriters, pianists, and performers. His songs have been recorded by Marcia Ball, George Clinton, Funkadelic, Rare Earth, Zakiya Hooker and many more. He was inducted into the Louisiana hall of fame in 2001.
Born in Monroe, Louisiana, in the Mississippi Delta, with musical roots in southern r&b, blues, and soul music, those influences can be heard in his songs, but his is an original hybrid mix and trans-genre style.
"Doug Duffey has been singing and playing piano professionally since he was fourteen years old. Influenced by blues, gospel, New Orleans rhythm & blues, Louisiana rock & roll, psychedelic rock, funk, and Memphis soul, Duffey has synthesized it all into a personal mix which is uniquely his own and quintessentially Louisiana" ---Mike Luster, Louisiana Folklife Festival
Bridging the urban with the rural, the modern with the traditional, the present with the past, each song tells a story, with lyrics written from 'real life' experiences and observations. He is not easy to categorize, nor does he want to be. He has never been one to paint himself into a corner by sticking to one musical genre; heâs been influenced as much by Kurt Weill as he has Willie Dixon. The one underlying element in all his work is soul⦠not the genre but the emotion.
"Duffey is a musician's musician- an artist who lives his art. His commitment to, and love for, what he does provides a marvelous focal point for both his recordings and live performances. Both are worth checking out!" --- Michael Keckhaver, Arts & Entertainment
Doug Duffey- vocal/acoustic grand piano
