Details:
Harmonica Pocket, the Puget Sound group known for âthoroughly catchy, toe-tapping indie-pop tunes,â announces the release their second childrenâs album, LADYBUG ONE. The release celebrates the delight of nature and spans the musical genres with 16 favorite and original songs for all ages.
This genre-crossing, solar powered family music release takes classic childrenâs tunes like âTwinkle Twinkleâ the âABCsâ and âO Susannaâ and adds world music and alt-pop notes, to make it the right choice for 21st century kids and their parents. Original songs celebrate fireflies, bumblebees, spiders and ladybugs, with each tune clambering under your skin with its catchy phrasing and quirky sensibility. While the tunes are invariably funky and fun, some of the lyrics deal with serious issues, such as âOne Tree Said,â and even the introduction to the counting tune âLadybug 123â points to the ecological importance of this very helpful insect.
Harmonica Pocket begins with the swinging songs of composer Keeth Monta Apgar. Apgarâs songs are brought to life by a rotating musical pop-gang of friends. The songs then become as diverse as the players who play on them. Along with many other musicians, instruments and sounds, the groupâs regular artists include Apgar as lead vocalist and performing acoustic wah-wah guitar and harmonica, Nala Walla performing vocal harmony, dance and the hula hoop, and Jon Ryser on saxophone. During Ladybug One recording sessions, 16 different musicians and 13 young children performed.
The colorful CD release includes illustrated liner notes with full lyrics. This truly âgreenâ recording was produced off the grid at Harmonica Pocketâs solar-powered studios on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State.
Harmonica Pocket plans a busy spring performance schedule, including a full slate of King County Public Library Summer Reading programs in 2008.
