Details:
Long, Tall, and Ugly formed in June of 2006. Rob, guitar and vocals, had just broken up The Perverts, a Eugene punk band, and was looking for something more in the rock and roll vein. While on his route as a courier, he ran into some former gig-mates. Not literally. Rob is an excellent driver. Eli, whom Rob had noticed playing steady-Eddy drums for the past several years in bands such as The Measely Peasants, roy G.Biv and most recently Sunken Grade, who the Perverts had shared some of their first shows with, was into the idea. Eli then suggested his friend Nathan, who was also in Sunken Grade, as a second guitarist. Matt, who was playing bass in the Anxieties, was a friend of Rob's, and was into the idea of playing blues based rock as well. The band worked up 10 songs and recorded a full length Cd in July of 2006 at Lucky Dog Studios in Eugene with Rob's long time recording partner/friend/engineer/ ears extraodinaire, Jeff Davis. The Cd contains elements of 70's era Rolling Stones, Velvet Underground, The Doors, The Meters, The Yardbirds, as well as the Beatles, Muddy Waters, and Chuck Berry. The name came about because all of the boys are avid fans of The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. Plus, it sounds funny. Matt moved to Portland in August, after the band played it's first show at The Downtown Lounge in Eugene. Nathan has since taken over the bass position and the band performs as a three piece. They cover some Richie Valens, VU, Stones as well as performing their snappy original material. The boys completed their new record "Valentine" which they recorded in Portland at Sector 7-G studios. The record was engineered by "Handsome" Jon Burbank, ex-guitarist from I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch in The House and The Runaway Boys. Jon has engineered all SOB's record and the first Hillstomp record "One Word". The album was recorded in 7 hours on August 4th of 2007.
