Details:
I dig the blues, always will. Trends may change from time to time, but the blues will always be..... like laughing and crying.
In my younger days, I was lucky to play with some blues greats like Big Walter Horton, George Smith, Johnny Little John, Big Mama Thorton, Albert Collins and the best friend the blues ever had, Charlie Musselwhite. Those people and times are where my love of the blues has come from. I remember Geoege Smith staying in a motel with all the windows broken out, laying in the gravel under his car hollering "You like red beans?" He invited musicians and anyone who liked the blues to 'cmon out and play and eat. We did plenty of both 'til we were fat and happy sitting 'round listening to stories of Muddy and him and the old days in Chicago; 'til the summer sun let down. Well I knew he wasn't makin' much money, but he sure made everybody feel mighty good.
Our style of blues is different 'cause we come from a different time and place, but I'll take those lessons with for ever.
One time S.P. Leary (Big Walters drummer) leaned over to me, just as he was leaving town, and said "Man , I'm gettin' old. You gotta keep it alive." Yeah, it's a struggle, but if you love it you keep on Strugglin'!
