Details:
2003 marked the year that music became more than a simple hobby for Paul Shimomoto. As a practicing corporate attorney in Honolulu, becoming a professional vocalist and recording artist was not something he, or anyone else, would have expected. However, after being coaxed into entering the vocal competition of an inaugural music and hula festival, Paul ended up winning the grand prize - an opportunity to record with Hula Records - one of Hawaii's most well-known record labels. In August of 2004, Paul released his first commerical recording, "Magic Beside the Sea", under the Hula Records label.
The release of "Magic Beside the Sea" marked a turning point in Paul's interest in music. No longer was music a simple hobby; it now became a legitimate and realistic career opportunity. Paul gained more recognition in the local Hawaiian music community and he found himself performing at countless private engagements and conventions. He has since had many opportunities to perform with such legendary Hawaiian entertainers such as Nina Kealiiwahamana, Mahi Beamer, Gary Aiko, Marlene Sai and the Ambassador of Aloha, Danny Kaleikini.
On December 12, 2007, Paul produced and released his newest project, "Sentimental Alibi", under his own record label, Leo Hano Records. "Sentimental Alibi" marks a turning point in Paul's musical direction. While "Magic" evokes a more traditional Hawaiian sound with the use of guitar, ukulele and upright bass, "Sentimental Alibi" offers sophisticated, orchestrated interpretations of classic and contemporary island compositions. It offers a sound reminiscent of the likes of Nat King Cole, Dean Martin and Alfred Apaka.
Paul still continues his corporate law practice as a partner at the Honolulu law firm of Char Hamilton Campbell & Yoshida. He is married with two children. He is a graduate of Iolani School, Denver University and Creighton University School of Law.
