Randy Spencer is best known in the Northeast for his song, "Black Flies," a certified, chart-topping, number one hit song in 1981 throughout much of northern New England and the Maritime Provinces of Canada. It paved the way for a career of songwriting and producing. Randy has built three recording studiosââhis most recent, a fully digital, mulitrack facility in beautiful Holden, Maine.
Randy has played on the same bill with artists such as Roger McGuinn of The Byrds, Dr. Hook, Jonathan Edwards, Tom Paxton, John Hammond, Kenny Rankin, Steve Goodman and many more. Randyâs 1999 CD, "One Road" reached #12 on the European Top 100 chart for âindieâ labels. In recent years, Randy has guested on CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood, ESPN2's Backroads with Ron and Raven, and Boston Channel 5's Chronicle.
Portland Magazine, in it's November 2005 cover story, named Randy one of Maine's "Ten Most Intriguing People." Due out in another magazine in 2008, is a feature story on "30 New Englanders you should meet" and Randy's one of them!

While Randy continues to write, produce, and release new CDâs of his music, he is immersed in other projects. He is audio archivist for the Passamaquoddy Tribe, digitizing historic audio material, then using state-of-the-art software to restore and preserve the tribeâs living history. He has produced the narratives for two Native American films, âSong of the Drum,â and âNâtolonapemk: My Relativeâs Place,â and has co-produced three albums of Native American music with Donald Soctomah.
