Details:
Eddie Lopez started playing trumpet at 15 while attending high school but soon switched to baritone sax because of the
influence of Tower of Power sounds coming from the radio.
Eddie really liked playing the big sounding horn,until he
joined the school's marching band.
Eddie was 5'1" tall, so the baritone sax was a bit too much
for him to march with,so he took up the tenor sax.
From that point on Eddie practiced his tenor sax everyday
studying the horn players being played on the radio such as
Tower of Power, Chicago and Cold Blood.
After practicing for two years Eddie sat in at some jam sessions and parties around town.
Eddie's life soon took a new turn when he was introduced to Danny Mendoza at a jam sesion.Danny's band IMAGE was the hottest band around the Central Valley at that time.
Danny invited Eddie to sit in with IMAGE on a future
performance,which Lopez was all too happy to oblige.
IMAGE played many Tower of Power songs,one being
SQUIBB CAKES well known for it's screaming tenor solo that
every sax player around tried to emulate.
The night that Eddie sat in with IMAGE,he played that solo
note for note.Danny Mendoza was impressed and hired the
seventeen year old Eddie Lopez on the spot.
At present Eddie Lopez is promoting his debut CD
OCEAN BREEZES a leader and is currently playing blues,funk
and Mowtown with a group known as SMOOTH GROOVE.
NOTE: Eddie performed all of the instruments and composed
all of songs on his CD.
