Well, one day I decided to get together with some friends, pianist Ron Sfarzo, Bassist George McNeil, and drummer Ed Margolin, spend about two hours in the San Francisco Musicians Union Local 6 recording studio, and make a CDâsomething I've long promised myself to do. Each tune was played only once, and therefore each was a single "take." Nothing fancy; something like a jam session on tunes we like to play. So that's why the title, "It's What It Is (For Family and Friends)."
