Details:
eH Factor, aka Ed Hecht, first heard the siren call of the synthesizer in 1977. The catalysts: the synth riff in Styx's "Fooling Yourself" and the vocoded vocals in ELO's "Mister Blue Sky". Seeing Gary Numan perform "Cars" on "Saturday Night Live" two years later hooked him on the keys for life.
Ironically, he wouldn't own a real synthesizer for another 20 years. In the meantime, he continued to fill his electronic musical void with the likes of Soft Cell, Bill Nelson, Depeche Mode, Yaz, Ultravox, Visage, OMD, and many others (all on vinyl). He also wrote and recorded songs with whatever analog equipment he could lay his hands on.
His eventual graduation to soft synths and MIDI software in general seemed like a natural progression. He now prefers soft synths to hardware and is a true believer in Reason.
eH Factor's music has appeared in various corporate/industrial productions, as well as on Payback, a video game for Amiga, Mac, and GameBoy Advance. He continues to collaborate with David Anderson in Burn Like Nero (a bi-coastal, electroclash studio project), counts New Order as his greatest influence and drinks too much caffeine.
