The Elite Jewels were organized in Cleveland, Ohio in 1936 by Mrs. Etta Mae Hurd, Ms. Johnnie Mae Feagen and Mr. Leroy Gaynot. The group's talent to sing was soon discovered by many of Cleveland's finest musicians and directors and shortly thereafter they were nicknamed the "Songbirds of the North." Since that time, they have managed to withstand many trials, struggles and pitfalls. Through their faith and determination in God, they have stayed together for the past 66 years and till this day the Elite Jewels have never stop singing. Since 1948, the Elite Jewels have had their own weekly Radio broadcast and they are presently aired every Saturday from 4:00 to 5:00 pm on the radio station WABQ - 1540 AM in Cleveland.

The Elite Jewels have performed with many of the greatest singers in the country such as, The Caravans, Shirley Caesar, Inez Andrews, The Gospel Harmonettes, and the late Reverend James Cleveland and many more. The Elite Jewels have recorded with five major recording companies: Palada, Peacock, Simpson, Songbird, and Savory Records. The Elite Jewels recently signed with Trinity Record Company, Inc. The Elite Jewels have appeared on local television stations 3, 5 and 8 and were featured for eight weeks on channel 8's P.M. Magazines. Presently, the Elite Jewels are all active members of different churches. The group continues to carry the Gospel message in song to people all over the world.
