Alan Penfold - Trumpet
Originally from Montreal, Alan Penfold took his first trumpet lesson at the age of nine. Not long after this he heard Bird and Diz for the first time and discovered an immediate affinity for this music. Subsequently he studied composition and arranging with Frank Mella and trumpet with Carmine Caruso in New York City. He started playing professionally at the age of fifteen and became immersed in the Quebec music milieu, doing recordings, radio and television. His long-term jazz associations have been with the Nick Ayoub Quintet, the Bernard Primeau Jazz Group, the Vic Vogel and Al Baculis big bands. He has done world tours with Les Feux Follets and with his own jazz sextet. In 1995 he became a founding member of Eastwind.
