JW Lance grew up in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, just 60 miles from the music capital of the south, his birth place New Orleans, Louisiana known ad âThe Big Easyâ. âJWâ grew to love the music root sound of country Western music. At the early age of nine years he was encouraged to develop his talent of singing and playing guitar when he realized he could play the rubber band box and finally the guitar in New Zion Baptist Church of his hometown. This was the true spiritual foundation of his musical career.

Hank Williams, Sr. and the CBS Trumpeters are credited as having the most influence on his early Country Music Career. The music career challenges of Charlie Pride lingers most in his mind as demonstrative of how to over come the hardships facing African Americanâs succeeding in the genre of Country Music world.

In 1970 JW Lanceâs music training took a definite turn with the instructions of an accomplished arranger, composer and musician, Mr. Otis Harley in New York and the New York School of Music. Early music success for JW Lance was with several great gospel groups which he credits as exposing him to writing, composing and recording many songs and albums such as his first Gospel Album âI Hear Voicesâ in 1980 and âThe World Todayâ in 1985 with Lance Records. He has written and produced several sensational sounds yet to be published. The first group to recognize and engage his talents are, The Drifters, Five Blind Boys Of Mississippi, The Fantastic Volunaries of Detroit, Michigan and The Gospelaires of Dayton, Ohio with whom he shared the stage for many performances. JW Lance has traveled and performed with Ben E. King as a guitarist and sings regular with The Original Coasters through their current 2005 engagements.

The music of JW Lance reaches the heart and maintains the âflavor of country with a whole lot of soulâ.
