Joe's Story--There comes at time in your life, when you stop dreaming and you start doing. Itâs a time when you realise if there is going to be any change it has to come through you. As someone who had toyed with the idea of song writing for many years and kept putting it off for various reasons. I finally bit the bullet 18 months ago after recovering from two discs collapsed in my neck. I couldnât have the life or career I had before. After being in chronic pain for three years. I had the opportunity to take a rehab place at the Real health Institute in London, which taught me I could do something. I took a decision to really get my head down and come up with the goods. Once you take these decisions things start to happen. By coincidence we were looking for a new Guitar Teacher for Tom. I was looking for someone who had actually done something, not just passed the exams. Enter Kevin Stacey, 30 Years experience as a session guitarist from backing the Four Tops, numerous American and British Artists and had the reputation of getting the Job done. He also performed live on Radio 2 with Debbie Cassel The next thing I know the songs are coming, Kevin seems to know exactly how I want them to sound, he introduces me to Graham, He sings them and everything fits. I'm not dreaming anymore, Iâm doing. We've just put our first CD together and I'm even singing on three of the tracks! Put your trust in me is our first venture, I have had two spinal fusionâs to my neck this year and itâs great to pick up the guitar again.
Kevinâs story-- Kevin has been a freelance session player for the last 40 years. He has worked with countless American and British Artists. He has a reputation for getting the job done. It turns out, luckily for us, that he was a musical arranger and recording engineer. Despite saying that he wasnât really a Country player he turned out the goods. His rhythm sections and tight arrangements bring the songs alive.
Thomas KellyâI am taking after Dad and enjoy writing and playing the guitar. Kevin and my Dad were really impressed with my ideas for â Finally Foundâ and âWise decisionsâ - I co wrote the lyrics and wrote the original music myself. Not bad for 16 year old.
NoteâI love seeing youngsters get the chance to shine and we felt Tom deserved having his tracks on the CD ...joe
Graham Smith - I have been singing and writing for many years. I enjoyed working with Joe and Kev on the Album. It was a great learning curve and we all had an imput. We all live within a few miles of each other. Itâs great to bring our style of Country music, to all of you.
Well we've had a good bit of feed back. It seems like we sound like a few people. It just goes to show when youâre growing up, your senses and emotions are definitely influenced by the sounds around you. So here we go. This is other people's words, not ours. There's a touch of Johnny Cash, Billy Ray, Garth Brookes, and John Denver in his younger days. A Bob Dylan influences in the song writing (telling the story). When I was a youngster growing up in the late 60's and 70's My parents loved country Music, Slim Whitman, Johnny Cash, etc they also loved Elvis and Rock and Roll. Before the advent of 24 hr TV and computer Games we would spend most of Sunday as Kids, going through their record collection listening to the sounds of the 50's. Magic. I just write what comes into my head. Two lines of song can stick in my brain for a few weeks, and then the rest comes. Or in the case of Put Your Trust in Me, and Hello Sunshine Goodbye Rain they took me 20 min's to write at the kitchen table. When my wife was seriously ill last year and things were looking bad. I wrote Troubles on my Mind. I don't profess to be a singer, but Iâm told the emotion came through and conveyed the song. I played acoustic guitar and sang it live at the studio. I never got a grade higher than a D for music at school; you were branded for life if you could not play the recorder. I can't read a note of music. If the music is in you, let it out and Iâm proud that I did just that.
