Karen Johns & Company
Singer/songwriter Karen Johns writes and performs sultry, swinging jazz standards that are often hailed "jazz standard hits". Together with her husband producer/songwriter/guitarist James Johns, Karen has written and produced seven CD albums including two standard jazz albums released on PtarmiganMusic/Jazz; and five gospel albums released on Isaiah12Records; all published by Vital Force (ASCAP). Every one of the Karen Johns' album projects renders recorded performances by some of Music City's finest session players. Her co-writers and arrangers include Kevin Sanders, Lori Mechem, James Johns, Justin Kessler, Joel Bolen, and Jim Hoke. Karen Johns has also recorded several lead vocals for Stormworks Productions film soundtrack recordings. Her rendition of the ballad, "I Never Had a Love Like You" composed by Stephen Melillo, was featured in the Miramax film Benefit of the Doubt starring Donald Sutherland and Amy Irving.

Bassist Brook Sutton is originally from New Orleans, Louisiana. He has played bass in numerous original projects and worked extensively as a recording engineer. Suttonâs credits include work with jazz artists such as Ellis Marsalis, Jason Marsalis, Marianne McPartland, Henry Butler, and Johnny Vidocovich. In addition to his work as a prominent recording engineer in New Orleans Sutton also focused his musical studies to bass. He studied with Bill Huntington, George Porter, and Robert Elliott. Sutton enjoys playing roots jazz as well as other experimental musical styles. Sutton holds a Masters Degree in Music Education from Tennessee State University with an emphasis in music technology.

Pianist Kevin Sanders, a Nashville native now living in Franklin, Tenn., received his early formal training in classical piano and then began working in several pop and R&B bands. He honed his jazz skills in private study with Nashville greats including Lori Mechem, Beegie Adair, and Bruce Dudley in private study at The Nashville Jazz Workshop. An accomplished musician in any style, Kevin is in high demand as a soloist and accompanist. A songwriter with Vital Force Publishing (ASCAP), Kevin recently co-composed several jazz standard originals with acclaimed jazz singer/songwriter Karen Johns., featured on the Karen Johns & Company LP Star and Season, [PtarmiganMusic/Jazz].
Producer/guitarist/song writer/recording engineer James Johns, began his formal, private guitar study in central Washington state, in his youth. He built his first analog recording studio in Seattle where he song wrote, performed and recorded with a number of bands in the Seattle music scene. A few years later, he and his wife Karen Johns, moved the recording studio and their home to Nashville where they founded the publishing company Vital Force (ASCAP). In addition to a lot of free lance recording engineering in Nashville, James Johns co-wrote, recorded and produced five contemporary Christian albums for Isaiah 12 Records, and developed FaithSongMission.com, an Anglo-Catholic and Tiazeâ music publishing division in international missions. James holds a BA degree in Education and World Missions from Canadian Bible College. He is co-founder and producer of the indie jazz label, PtarmiganMusic/Jazz and chief engineer at Studio 905, Franklin, Tenn., and Isaiah 12 Studios, Nashville, Tenn.

Drummer Bart Elliott is known for his creative energy, versatility and skill in all music styles as studio drummer, percussionist, producer, composer and arranger. His credits include work with such jazz artists as the legendary trumpeter Clark Terry, Butch Cornell (Stanley Turrentine), Ernie Watts, Jim Snidero, Bill Tillman (Blood, Sweat & Tears), Warren Sneed, Hugo Loewenstern Jr. (Tommy Dorsey), and a recorded performance at Carnegie Hall with clarinetist Eddie Daniels. Bart holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Performance from West Texas State University with post-graduate work at Southwest Texas State University.
