Mark uses modern effects and sampling/looping technology to create a very convincing "one-man band" with a sound heavily steeped in the classic jazz tradition.

DESCRIPTION:
I work as an electrical engineer but have also been playing music on various instruments for many years. Jazz guitar is my specialty, but I'm also fascinated with electronic music technology and frequently use it for solo jazz performances. "Looping" is the process of recording multiple parts during a live performance to build up the sound of a larger group. On this recording, I am layering parts to sound like a guitar-bass-drums jazz trio. The CD is a complete live performance I did on the local community radio station WEFT (90.1 FM, weft.org).
NOTE:
This is a CD-R with home-made packaging, but I think it is very nicely done. Not that I'm biased.
SOME NICE COMMENTS ABOUT MY WORK:
"I'm always amazed when I come across people who are daring to go where no one has gone before. Thanks for the inspiration. Not only are you doing something technically advanced but the wonderful thing is that you make excellent music while doing so."
--Jack Grassel (Jack is a really amazing guitarist! Check out his web site jackgrassel.com)
"Mark is a rare breed of Musician AND Engineer, so he's able to do cool stuff such as looping which enables him to play five instruments at the same time, creating the sound of a âone man bandâ. Marks solo work is soft bluesy jazz, with a strong bossa nova influence. It's the kind of music you got to listen to with one ear close to the ground if you're going to want to catch all the magnificent subtleties."
--WPGU Radio Web Site
"Mark, You seem to have refined that approach quite a bit since the first time I heard you. If I were to hear something like that on the radio I don't think that I would guess that it was one person playing live."
---Charlie Robinson (Jazz Guitarist & Composer)
