Details:
Song writing is a long and winding road. At times it is filled with potholes and squished dead animals and other moments are sunny drives down long straight highways heading into the middle of nowhere. Occasionally we arrive at a destination, but more often than not we are stuck on the side of the road trying to figure out what happened and why we are there. Our name is Quiet by Ten. Our songs are somewhere between the departure and the arrival. We have not yet accomplished what we dream, and yet we dream to accomplish what we already have. Blah, blah, blah ⦠eloquent biography mumbo-jumbo ⦠To speak plainly, our goal is to offer a deeper sense of beauty and truth to this dull existence we live in. Our universe is vast and âmusicâ is just as big. We donât want to be another noisy sound in your stereo, we only want to speak from our own personal experience and create something worth singing about. Those are the songs that matter to us, songs that point to something bigger than ourselves. You decide whether or not our journey has been in vain. So for now, have a listen and stay classy.

Here is the story behind our name:
Our band mostly rehearses in my parents downstairs basement, in good old Monroe Washington. There are several reasons for this, however none of them really matter to the story at hand. The only thing that needs to be known is that we practice at my folkâs house.
So, my parents were crazy enough to have six kids, of which I am the eldest, the reason I share this is because my youngest three siblings still live at home and their ages are sixteen, nine and five. Therefore they obviously have bed times... Ten O'clock just happens to be that very hour. So when we would practice we would always have to be 'quiet by ten'.
We found is humorous and decided to call ourselves that. So our name started as a joke, because everywhere we would try to practice (sometimes at our apartments or at our schools) we would have to be "Quiet By Ten". Since then however, it has come to mean something more to us.
In the midst of this lightening speed world we live in, this world of fast food, microwave ovens, drive-in theatres and high speed Internet, we often find ourselves racing so fast that we have forgotten where we are headed. We are so put out anytime we have to wait. How many times have we flipped out because our Internet is taking a couple minutes longer to check our email than usual
Our philosophy is different, we want to slow down a bit. Take time to enjoy this beautiful world we live in. Along side this need for speed is this constant noise that seems to stem out of every corner of this planet. It seems we can't be quiet. To me this is tragic, because there is a great peace and beauty in the stillness.
A lot of bands claim that they have 'something to say' and that is great, we hope we have 'something to say' as well, however we also have something to hear. We want to be a band that listens as much as it speaks. We don't want to just add to the noise. Sometimes it's as easy as giving yourself a sound curfew. So for now, we'll be Quiet By Ten. That's the story.

The history behind the band and our sound:
Well I have played in and out of bands since I was 13. The first band I was in was called âOverhereâ and we formed at Summer Camp when we were 13. We lasted for 2 years and played several shows including opening up for Soulfood 76 and Pedro the Lion. Since then, however, I have played in many musical groups. Quiet By Ten officially formed in February of 2007 as a last shot at a dream to play music. At the ripe old age of 24 I felt that my life was ahead of me and if I didnât go for my dreams now, then it would never happened, so thus began the journey. I had already been writing songs for a couple years and finally wanted to do something with them. I recruited long time musical friend Jeff Wandler to partner with me on this venture. Jeff and I have played in several musical groups together and we are always writing songs. Jeff plays bass, guitar, and sings. Jeff and I work together as a great team, we each have very different strengths and weaknesses and when we work together, a balance is found that really works! Especially when it comes to songwriting, Jeff has a great perspective of keeping music fresh and organic, if you take this and put it together with my focus on listenable melodies and tight arrangements you get a great outcome. We bounce ideas off each other all the time, and whoever has the best idea, thatâs the one we go with. With Jeff onboard we needed a good drummer and recruited Seth Kuhlman to play the skins for us. Seth was a good friend of ours from church and had played with us on worship teams growing up. We love all kinds of music and are influenced by many different genres. Our music seems to spill out of this diversity. If you had to put us under a âMyspace music stylingâ we would say âPop/Folk/Rockâ however, I donât feel this reveals the breadth of our sound. In a sentence I would say: we are a pop-rock band with a high folk influence and a 1960s rootsy-vintage feel. We are all about the melody. Our music is very melodic. We do a lot of story song writing that takes the listener somewhere and we try to make the music in the song go with the lyrics on the journey. This is why our style is hard to categorize we approach each song totally unique. We want the song to stand-alone. Whatever is best for the song is what we do. If that means it is just an acoustic guitar and a vocal track, then so be it. However other times it means a full orchestra with 12 cello parts and 6 violins.
