Biography


Rafael Picorelli was born in Santurce, P. R. where at the age of 9 he began formal studies in classical guitar. He went on to win a High School award to study classical guitar in Spain.

In his extensive career as a composer, arranger and musician, he has collaborated with the most important musical groups and theater companies in New York City as well as international level.

Since l978 Mr. Picorelli has recorded with various groups such as âRáfagaâ and âTony Croattoâ, where he arranged and recorded 7 albums.

In 1985 he performed a live concert of his original compositions featuring the international percussionist-recording artist âGiovanni Hidalgoâ.

In 1990 Mr. Picorelli became the musical director for the Univisionâs show âBuenos Dias Medio Diaâ,

During the summer of 1991 he arranged and performed for Miriam Colonâs Puerto Rican Traveling Theater, during the play âLos Jibaros Progresistasâ (NYC).

In 1993 Mr. Picorelli brought the Puerto Rican Music Folklore to be performed at the Carnegie Hall in New York City.

In 1995 Mr. Picorelii composed the music for the play âTroya de Americaâ directed and written by Pablo Cobrera, recently awarded with the ACE Award (Asociacion de Cronistas de Espectacutos de Nueva York), for best production of the year 1995.

In 1996 Mr. Picorelli participated in a concert with âThe Bronx Arts Ensembleâ. NY, NY. During this concert he played Cuatro and guitar in a classical performance, âVivaldi Concerto for Two Mandolinsâ with the well-known musician and recording artist, âJosé Gonzalezâ. Three months later, he performed with the Bronx Arts Ensemble at âThe Hostos Center for the Arts & Cultureâ, NY, NY. This time he performed Cuatro and guitar for Gala Concert Celebrating Puerto Rican Heritage Month.

In 1998 Mr. Picorelli was contracted for second time to perform the Puerto Rican Music Folklore at the Carnegie Hall in New York City featuring âCuatroâ Master musician, Eddie Lopez as guest artist.

Mr. Picorelli holds a BA degree in Music from the University of Puerto Rico, and an MA in Arts from the New York University(NYU)in Music Therapy.
