Details:
Rex Pruitt was raised on a tobacco farm in Kentucky. Introduced to guitars and banjos as a child, he played in dance bands as a teenager and mastered bluegrass and rockabilly styles, sometimes winning awards, sometimes dropping a pick. Leaving home at seventeen, Rex played Colorado, Nashville, California, and the Mid-west, eventually settling in Natchez, Mississippi where the easygoing life was to his liking. Rexâs uniquely clean, honest music combines bluegrass, blues, rockabilly and country in a way that is perfectly American.
Pretty Good Guitar is the first CD from MissyAnna Art and Music. MissyAnna is committed to the music of the Mississippi River, its bluegrass, blues and rockabilly influences from Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas, and the Cajun country sounds of South Louisiana. We are proud to preserve these traditions in new, original works, and in new recordings of traditional music.
Appreciating those who keep music fresh, this CD is dedicated to music lovers who seek new songs and sounds from outside the mainstream, to the fans, musicians, performers, and creators of music where the notes are clear and the lyrics matter. Thank you for keeping the music real!
First credit for this collection goes to Rex Pruitt of Natchez, Mississippi who provided his imagination, musical skills, songwriting talent, and dexterity with rhythm, lead, and bass guitar, and with banjo and vocals. Rex does his Kentucky heritage proud. I am grateful to Rex for developing country and rockabilly arrangements to my lyrics in three songs offered here, and for contributing four songs on his own and one great instrumental. My special thanks also goes to Judith A. Curry, a fifth generation resident of Kentucky. Judith co-wrote with Rex three of the songs on this collection, contributing special sensitivity in the bluegrass tradition with Lay Me Down, Old Man Time, and Ragged Old Dream.
