BIOGRAPHY

shAi dawn, born in West Hills, California on March 24, 1972, was raised as an only child by her mother. shAi dawn moved often throughout the areas of Fresno, California where most of her Mothers side of the family relocated. She went to several schools and was constantly exposed to new things. You would most likely find her in her room singing and dancing. Her mother was a lover of sound so it was always around.

shAi dawn was born entertaining. Her Mom recalls, âWhen she was about 4 years old I had friends over and I remember being amazed because she was so entertaining, she wasnât shy at all. They would laugh and enjoy what she was doing and she didnât stop, she just kept entertaining them.â

By the age of 5 it was obvious that her musical influences would be many. Near the age of 15 she was skateboarding and listening to Punk, Metal, and Pop. When she reached 19, shAi dawn began dating a musician. By that time she had been exposed to Electronica, Drum n Bass, Dub, IDM, Ambient, and many other styles.

shAi dawn soon started collaborating with her boyfriend, and his friend, under the name Maulana. The Trip-Hop group quickly received the attention of KCRW but that same attention dwindled when no performances or plans followed.

shAi dawn then began to search for musicians to work with but was unable to find someone who could give her the unique sound she craved. About 4 years ago, the relationship with her boyfriend came to an end. The time that followed would be spent searching for the paths she would now have to walk on her own.

Finally, a musical epiphany came, she prayed that she could meet a talented songwriter who could help her assimilate her many bits and pieces of ideas. Shortly after, she met someone who would give her the formula she needed. After the completion of 3 songs she decided to take her destiny into her own hands and write. 9 months later would be the mark of 12 songs, 7 of which are contained on Chiaroscuro, her first EP release.

In February of 2007, shAi dawn began training heavily in hip-hop dance to prepare for the show she has in her heart to do. âI want to do something really amazing,â she says, âI want people to walk away feeling like they can take on the world.â âIâm so excited that everything is finally coming together. Itâs like I waited my whole life just to see this happen.â
