Brandon and Travis is VINYL SOUPâs second studio release and the follow up to their 2003 debut release, Chasing Yesterday. Since the release of Chasing Yesterday, VINYL SOUP has been through two different incarnations as a band. The original lineup featured Andrew Hooker on guitar and vocals, Evan Brewer on bass, and Paul Allen on drums. In 2004 Evan Brewer was replaced by Drew Robinson on bass, and Paul Allen was replaced by John Soward on drums. Over the next year and a half the band would tour regionally in the southeast and would perform at SXSW in Austin, TX. By May of 2005 VINYL SOUP performed itâs last show at The Full Moon Club in Memphis, TN. Andrew, John, and Drew disbanded due to artistic differences and hectic work and touring schedules. From May of 2005 to February of 2007 VINYL SOUP did not perform and the future of the band ever touring and recording again was questionable.

VINYL SOUP is now back with their 2008 studio release, Brandon and Travis. Brandon and Travis features the definitive and third incarnation of VINYL SOUP. Dr. Chuck Brooks(a.k.a. Dr. Buddha) on drums and vocals, Wes Lloyd on bass and vocals, and Justin Smith on piano, organ, and vocals with Andrew Hooker on guitar and vocals. Brandon and Travis features 10 songs and clocks in at a whopping 69 minutes of music. This album finds the jam-rockers exploring new genres such as Folk, Bluegrass, Afro-Cuban- Prog/Jazz, and 70âs influenced Progressive Rock that is similar to bands like The Who, Pink Floyd, Yes, and early era Genesis.

VINYL SOUP has taken a U-turn with Brandon and Travis by featuring Folk, Bluegrass, Jazz, and Classical influences with a rhythm section pumping Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Swing, and World grooves. Known for having a penchant for the silly, this album lyrically has a philosophical and folkloric view of life, love, relationships and even hints at politics. At the same time, many fans of VINYL SOUP's debut album "Chasing Yesterday" will find the fantasy and psychedelic lyrical writings of âCaity and the Mistâ and âElijah Iâll Take a Rideâ to be reminiscent of their first album and title track âChasing Yesterdayâ.

With less emphasis on blues and funk as found on Chasing Yesterday, Brandon and Travis still challenges and pleases the most critical ear. VINYL SOUP has proven once again they can still cohesively mix multiple genres and styles yet still remain pure to ROOTS MUSIC!
