Essenza's sound can be attributed to the combination of subtle lo-fi electronics, soft guitars, and atmospheric strings. Their music is enriched by delicate, sultry vocals to create an ethereal musical experience.
Essenza started when vocalist Jane Zabeth decided to move from various downtempo electronic projects to seek more permanency in a band. Responding to an ad for a vocalist, Jane met founding members, Ryan Snyder and Jim Vanaria. Jane's soft yet emotionally confident voice and intimate lyrics were an outstanding compliment to the music Ryan and Jim had started writing only a month prior.
Jim first began playing around Chicago with his previous band while Ryan is a veteran of the Nashville music scene. It wasn't until the spring of 2004 that both Ryan and Jim found themselves in a position to begin collaborating their musical talents. Jim combined his electronic programming expertise with Ryan's unique guitar noodlings and formed what instantly seemed a perfect union.
Jane's soft timbre on vocals emphasized the band's need to offset her voice on the low end. A long time friend of Ryan, Erin Piepergerdes, rounded out the group with his solid, fluid basslines.
It wasn't until the four came together that they felt like a complete group and soon thereafter adopted the name Essenza (Italian for Essence).
