The Delta Nationals
âAll over the Map,â The Delta Nationals new CD, is an 11-song effort comprised of all original songs written by the band. As the title implies, the musical styles range widely from jump swing and classic country, to Memphis soul, bossa nova, reggae, New Orleans R&B and surf music.
The band's new CD release date is Feb. 2, 2008. The bandâs website is: www.deltanationals.com
The members of the band are: Ross Rowley, bass and vocals; Steve Irwin, guitar and vocals; Dave Ryan, keyboards and vocals; and Paul DeMark, drums and vocals.
âAll Over the Mapâ was recorded at Myrtletown Records in Eureka by engineer Tim Gray, who also co-produced the CD with The Delta Nationals. The band began recording in May 2006 and finished the final mix in December 2007.
Guest artists joining the Delta Nationals on the CD included: renowned Arcata singer Joyce Hough; the Roadmasters singer/guitarist Doug Eastteam; and dobro and pedal steel player Michael Proctor, formerly of the Eileen Hemphill-Haley Band and Buckshot.
For seven years and counting, The Delta Nationals have been keeping people dancing on the Northwest corner of California.
The band released its popular debut live CD âGet Out!â in April 2005.
The band showcases classic American music: popular rock and roll and rhythm and blues from the late â50s and '60s; 1950s rockabilly; late '40s/early 50s swing; â60s southern soul, classic country and New Orleans rhythm and blues. Its original tunes reflect these stylistic influences and others, such as Brazilian bossa nova, reggae and 60âs surf music.
The band has played at two Blues by the Bay Festivals and Dixieland Jazz Festivals in Eureka, Calif. The group has also played at many of the best North coast nightclubs in addition to being constantly in demand for private parties and community benefit events.
The members of the band have been playing in Humboldt County bands for 30 years. Bassist/vocalist Ross Rowley played for 10 years with popular country band The Roadmasters. Guitarist Steve Irwin played with Buckshot. Dave Ryan played with Arcata group the Sunseed Band.
Drummer Paul DeMark has deep blues roots. He played with legendary Chicago blues pianist/singer Sunnyland Slim over a 20-year period. He performed with him at the Telluride Jazz Festival in 1979 and 1980. He played with Sunnyland at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in 1979. He also played the Monterey Jazz Festival with Texas guitarist Albert Collins in 1978. Other blues artists DeMark has played with include Mike Bloomfield, Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson, Luther Tucker and Paul Butterfield.
