Details:
If endurance wins the race, then The Excuse, from Bowling Green, Kentucky have proven to be the Lance Armstrong of rock-'n-roll. These five guys have decided to stick to what they enjoy the most instead of being distracted by the many anxieties life heralds. Choosing to avoid the drama of "he said/she said", "cash/charge", "we are the next big thing", and other factors that often distract musicians, The Excuse have devoted themselves to performing the music they love for the people who love them.

Vocalist John Austin Chapman and guitarist Gunn met guitarist Tom Wise and drummer Billy Kingdollar in 2003 while the four were freshmen at Western Kentucky University. The four began collaborating ideas for what was soon to become The Excuse. The lineup was completed when the band added bassist Jeff Gilbert, a life-long friend of Tom and Billy.

Since most of the members came from previous bands, each brought unique experiences and ideas to the table. With influences from all categories, including punk (Alkaline Trio, Blink 182), emo (The Used, Taking Back Sunday), rock (Incubus, Foo Fighters), and folk (Damien Rice), The Excuse has something to offer for anyone. The band's first CD, "This Present's Past," was recorded in 2003/04 at Krystal Music Studio in Campbellsville, Kentucky with producer Danny Bailey.
