Founded in January 1999, E.X. VORTEX is a 5-member rock band, consisting of a guitarist(Juan "Whiz Kid" Mitchell),bassist(John B. Washington),drummer(Tommy lee Johnson),turntablist(Machete X) and a lead vocalist(Baye Osei). The band likes to describe it's music as "GHETTO METAL",incorporating Heavy Metal,funk,punk rock and hip-hop.
E.X. VORTEX was featured on OUTKAST's multi-platinum Grammy winning 1999 cd,"STANKONIA", and has recorded a hardcore re-make of of the PUBLIC ENEMY classic, "BUCKWYLIN'",which also features a CHUCK D and PROFESSOR GRIFF (of PUBLIC ENEMY)guest appearance. The band has played at all the major venues in their home-base of Atlanta,Georgia, along side such acts as INDIA.ARIE,STUCK MOJO,and PH BALANCE.Their
1st single, "POWERBOMB" off of the E.P. "GHETTO METAL(Now out of print)enjoyed airplay on college stations througout the southeast, as well as "THE METAL CHAMBER" an indie-metal radio show based out of Australia." W.A.R.", their much-anticipated follow up, is their 1st full-length CD is sure to be ground-breaking!!
