Danny Dine is a native of St Joseph, Michigan. He is a self taught musician who has experience with many different instruments and has played in many different bands. These bands covered many genres which include folk, rock, jazz, blues and country. He has covered many songs from various artists and has written about two hundred original songs.
The musical career of Danny began when he was in fourth grade. Danny started playing the ukulele with a song book that his mother owned. He began experimenting with traditional folk music using the ukulele. One of the first songs that he conquered was titled Down in the Valley. His musical desire then led him to the guitar. His first guitar was a Univox that his brother previously owned. When Danny was in sixth grade he began writing his own songs. Shortly after, Danny, his bother Bill and Kendall Holmes started a band. Out of high school Danny began playing an electric guitar, a 1972 Tele Thinline. During this time he learned how to play songs using cassette tapes and mimicking what he heard.
During his musical career, Danny has been in many successful bands that have contributed to his success as an artist. Some of his various bands include The Danny Dine Band, Proud Ape, Red Deluxe, The Steve Grigsby Band, Visions of Lucy, and Johnny Ray and The Southern Comfort Band. Through his experiences with these different groups Danny experimented with different genres and styles. His experience with The Danny Dine Band taught him how to write songs to gain the attention of his audience. While playing in Proud Ape, Danny began managing arrangements.
Danny has played in many gigs in Northern Indiana, Southwest Michigan and Mishawaka. He also had the privilege to play during the early years of Rainbow Farms in Vandalia, Michigan before its national demise. On New Years Eve of 1988, he played in Cozumel, Mexico with The Danny Dine Band advertised as the âAll American Bandâ.
While beginning his musical career, Danny had many influences that helped to push him to accomplish his musical goals. One of his first influences was Dan Pavlides. Dan helped Danny grow as a beginning musician and subconsciously continues to influence him. Some other musical influences include Peter Green, Mic Taylor, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jimmy Hendrix and Jerry Garcia.
Recently, Danny began sitting in with different bands such as Blind Willy, Shake and Darnel Watson's jazz group. In late 2005, a micro brewery called The Livery opened up in downtown Benton Harbor, Michigan. On Monday nights, Vinitia Sekema hosts their open-mic. Her and Danny began performing together. During this time he started recording original tracks with Matt Imbordino and The Shake Family.
Danny is currently a free lance musician. Some of his future ambitions include learning drums, keyboard, finger style blues and jazz techniques. He wants to continue writing songs to perform and eventually record a full album. He is taking drum lessons from Bill Nicks from Motown's Junior Walker and the All-Stars. He is also working with Mark Nemeth and Vinitia Sekema to start a band called DMV.
