Beginnings
Josh has had an "unquenchable desire" to play an musical instrument since he was a small child. For his first attempt to fulfill that desire he picked up the drums: "I started out on the drums for about 3 or 4 years; the neighbors called the cops once and my step-dad and I had it out a few times." Josh was further inspired to sell his drums and buy a guitar when he heard Nuno Bettencourt play guitar with Extreme on the album "Pornograffitti". With his brand new Washburn N2 lying on the bed, case open, he started speaking to it: "I will learn you. I will be successful at playing you!"
The Music
Life, Family, and God moves Josh to write music with raw emotion. "I may not be a chop monster or a pop icon but I just want to write songs that capture a moment. I am writing music from my heart." Josh wants the music to be more than just something to listen to but music that will "move your spirit and soul" and "help get you through the day!"
Where's the Singer?
Music doesn't have to have words to convey meaning and draw people in. Josh uses passion, creativity and just pure fun to create music full of meaning:
We live in a generation where everything is handed to you quick and fast. I think it's good for people to come to a show and not have the meaning of the song thought out for them. Each song can mean something totally different to each individual. It speaks to what your going though.
Music & Life
Every life has its own soundtrack. Josh writes songs that span the range of emotions from happiness, sadness, etc., because in life there are ups and downs. But it seems that "Grace always abounds when you need it!" Josh feels that if it weren't for the bad times the good times wouldn't mean as much. Josh further explains:
...that just means when you're in the valley and you're looking up at the high hills around you and you get enough strength and courage to climb those hills. Once your up there it's nice to look down at that valley and know you conquered! If the music I write can encourage one person's soundtrack to take a turn for the better then my mission is accomplished!
Corey Myers
Birthdate: February 15, 1993
Birthplace: St. Joseph, MO
Email: corey@joshmyersband.com
Born to Play
Beating pots and pans at one year of age is probably a common picture most people get of a toddler playing in the kitchen. However, when Corey beat the pans Mom and Dad noticed he seemed to be able to carry a beat at a very young age; soon Corey's parents bought him his first drum kit containing a snare, kick drum, one tom and one cymbal.
All in the Family
Playing drums is in the family's blood. Corey's dad, Josh Myers, was a former drummer; His grandpa, Charlie Shanks, is an accomplished Blues/Jazz Drummer in St. Joseph, MO and his uncle, Mike Shanks, is a phenomenal jazz drummer in Kansas City, MO. Corey has had no formal drum lessons but has had plenty of tips from his family members.
An Accomplished Drummer
Corey has played 3 entertainment talent shows in elementary school, 2 talent shows in the children's minstry placing 1st and 2nd place. Most recently Corey competed in the city wide talent show, "MYC's Got Talent" (view here) where his peers voted him 1st place.
Playing In The Josh Myers Band (for dad)
Corey is 15 years old now and part of the Josh Myers Band. Corey says playing in his dad's band is alot of fun but can be not so fun at times:
...like he gets on to me more if I'm not listening in a practice or if I have a cranky attitude here and there, but that is because I'm his son which in this case I guess is fair. But for the most part it's fun no matter what because I'm playing with awesome, talented people.
Inspirations
Some of Corey's inspirations are: God, Family and drummers like Jeff Campitelli, John Bonham, Bogie Bowles, Steve Jordan, Tony Royster Jr., and too many more to name.
People who are interested in Joe Satriani Steve Vai Andy Timmons should consider this download.
