Description:
Lively Old-Time and Celtic tunes played on hammered dulcimer, clawhammer style banjo, guitar and fiddle.
11 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Traditional Folk, EASY LISTENING: Background Music
Details:
Kyle Meadows and Steve Adkisson live in northern Kentucky and have been playing instruments most of their lives. They each came to this type of music at different times and from different places and have performed together for well over a decade.
Steve was born and raised in Kentucky (the ninth generation, in fact) and started playing guitar and banjo before he even learned to read (which is not saying all that much, really). Kyle is a relative newcomer, having lived here about 14 years after growing up in South Carolina, mostly, where he learned first the banjo and later the hammered dulcimer. (He's still working on learning to read).
They first met at a local jam session where they talked about table saws and missing fingers and realized they enjoyed each other's company, so they did the logical thing and started playing together and learning from each other. The eventual result is this CD that you are now reading about (and hopefully hearing as well).
The music is fresh and alive, stemming from the fact that both of the musicians are glad to have their fingers still attached. The energy ranges from high-speed reels, as in the opening tune Johnny Cope, to mellow, ambling lullabies like Grandpa's Waltz. They are obviously comfortable with each other, and with the tunes, which come from the British Isles and Appalachia, along with a few penned by Steve, himself, (proving in fact that he did learn how to hold one).
This is a really enjoyable CD, easy to listen to whether you're paying attention to it or using it as background music while working. (Steve said it sounded fine while he was running his chain saw in the basement). It's a delightful combination of instruments, tunes and musicians!
People who are interested in John McCutcheon Malcolm Dalglish Maggie Sansone should consider this download.
