The Artist: S for Steph is the product of me, Steph. I am inspired by all kinds of things around me - Joni, Regina Spektor, Beatles of course, Miles, Bob Marley, Coltrane, Celtic music, African music, natural organic rhythms made by feet walking, people talking; those I love, sunshine, rain, transit of all kinds, travel, food.

Mostly I layer the harmonies as much as I have time for, overtop of whichever piano I can get my hands on and an occasional hand drum of some kind or another.

It's all written and performed by myself.
Next album is planning to have a live drummer (wait I guess I'm a live drummer - what I meant was a real drummer, not a singer trying to be a drummer), and perhaps a guitarist, and since I've no longer access to a piano, perhaps synth keyboard. But I imagine the vocals will still be layered harmonies because I can't go on without harmony. You can never have too much of it.
It is imperfect and there are mistakes and occasionally I laugh in the background, but that's what I like about it, it's organic and it's all I've got so it's all I can give; maybe you will get a sense of that when you hear it.


The CD: Half of these songs were written years ago and half are new. I tried to make them clever which probably means they aren't so much clever, but at least I tried. Have a listen and if you like it, cool, and if you don't, that's also cool. Whatever suits you. Enjoy!
