Details:
The MacGregors are descended from Griogar, believed to be the 3rd son of Alpin, King of Scots, in the 8th century. They are one of the most ancient clans in the Highlands and are of original Celtic descent. The History of the clan is fraught with adversity and misfortune, and are a clan known for having the tenacity to retain clan unity despite the rigorous laws acted against them.
Rob Roy was a descendant of Dugal Cair Mohr, who gained fame during the Battle of Glen Fruin.Rob was born in the 1660s, the youger son of Lieut-Col-Donald MacGregor of Glengyle; his mother was a Campbell of Glenfalloch. His family lived in the mountains between Loch Lomond and Loch Katrine. He was known as Robert MacGregor Campbell of Inversnaid, and later of Graig Royston. He used the name Campbell due to the proscription of the name MacGregor.
As a MacGregor himself, Carl Peterson brings special warmth and meaning to these songs. The turbulent Clan Gregor produced some wonderful songs.
