M. CoCo Villalobos was born in Tijuana, Mexico. She grew up listening to Mexican musical icons like Jorge Negrete, Pedro Infante, Javier Solis. Her biggest musical influence though, was her mother who taught her how to sing and play the guitar. In fact, she comes from a musically talented family. Her mother, grandmother and also her great grandfather were all in mariachi.
CoCo and her family immigrated to Los Angeles, California when she was 11 years old. A year later, her musical career began when she and her brothers formed a musical group called. She was the drummer and then became the lead singer. She went on to play with other bands and developed her musical talent on a percussion instrument called Timbales. To this day, CoCo continues to perform with her band at various local venues in pursue of her love and passion for Latin music.
At a very young age, CoCo began exploring yet another field of her beloved musical passion: Songwriting.
But it wasnât until 1996 that her writing talent really developed. In the year 2000, she recorded her first CD of original music titled âHoy Como Ayerâ.
In late 2004, a very famous Mexican Norteño band called Conjunto Primavera, recorded one of Cocoâs songs âHoy Como Ayerâ. Just one week after the release date, the title track soared directly to the No.1 position simultaneously on the radio charts of the leading trade publications: Billboard, Hot Latin Tracks, No.1 Regional Mexican Airplay and Radio and Records Regional Mexican Charts. This song received other very important nominations such as:Premio Lo Nuestro, The Latin Grammy, and The Grammy all in The Mexican Regional Music categories.
On April 7th 2006, Maria CoCo Villalobos, received the prestigious BMI award for writing one of the 50 most popular and played songs of 2005.
Her newest CD "Como Te Olvido", again,is filled with love songs, heartbreak songs, and songs to reflect on.
