"Baby John, son, go out there and bring in some wood so I can start supper, and boy, stop all that noise. You need to be singing for the Lord instead of all that Devil music," said Mrs. Carrie Mae Chaires to her illegal son.
"Baby John," was born John Robinson in the late 30's on a migrant worker's farm called "Steel City" located in Canal Points, Florida. His parents were Mrs. Monimia (who died after childbirth) and Jesse Robinson (who was a Bishop).
Bishop Jesse took "Baby John" to live with his Uncle Patrick J. (Uncle P.J.) Small and his eight children in Yulee, Florida.
Carrie Mae Chaires, (Uncle P.J.'s sister-in-law) could not have children and took "Baby John" without the Small's knowledge. She raised him "John Chaires" in Polk City, Florida. There he lived for six years until his legal family revealed his true identity. After Mr. Chaires death, Carrie Mae moved back to Yulee and that's where "Baby John" found the reason to "Sing the Blues." Mrs. Carrie Mae and her husband John Walker traveled around Florida where "Baby John" sang and danced during the 40's and 50's.
"Baby John" toured many states and became known in Seattle as "Little Robby" and "Little Soul" in St Louis, Missouri during the late 60's and then became "Jonny Soul" during the early 70's. Jonny was a very popular DJ at WJPS in Evansville, Indiana and WLOU in Louisville, Kentucky.
Johnny's favorite artists are Bobby Bland, Little Milton, Little Johnny Taylor and Bobby Womack. Jonny is credited for writing, composing and performing his own material.
