Details:
TRUE NORTH is the sophomore release from Kim Richardson. As the title suggests, the theme of the collection is following your inner compass, pursuing your passions. Donât be fooled, though. This is not a bellybutton gazing expedition to be sure. Like her previous release, True North is an entertaining blend of the clever and consequential, the sharp and the sweet covering everything from a jubilant death to a church-going Satan.
The musical lineup features Yellow Dog Records recording artist William Lee Ellis, Archer Records recording artist Amy LaVere, Rick Steff (recently touring with Cat Power and Lucero), and multi-instrumentalist Paul Taylor. Grammy winner Jeff Powell engineered, assisted by Jennifer Lee; Jimbo Lattimore mixed.

Itâs February 2008. What are you up to?
âTrue Northâ was just released. Thatâs exciting. Last summer I was a regional finalist in the Mountain Stage New Song contest and competed at Eddieâs Attic in GA â very excellent. (Stayed in a crappy motel on that trip - see MySpace video for horrifying but entertaining details.) I also opened for Mack Starks and Stacey Earle and Mark Stuart. In â06 I opened for Garrison Starr. Iâve been touring the southeast and up north. Heading Baltimore-way later this year.
Why be a performing songwriter?
I tried, believe me I tried, to be a corporate middle-manager. I served eight years in a Fortune 500 company. Eventually, the paychecks were just too much and I had to walk away.
Seriously, though, it is a true passion for me. To share my songs and stories with folks who are looking to escape for a couple of hours is pure joy. Every show is different, because every audience is different. Theyâre the same songs, but each night sheds a new light on them. And I get the occasional heartfelt note from a fan relaying how important one of my songs has been to them as they celebrate/mourn/contemplate/getdressedinthemorning. That means a lot.
How was True North born?
I was asked to sing a demo for some writer friends, William Lee Ellis and Mary Unobsky. We had such a great chemistry in the studio that we decided to try writing together. It was my first team writing experience, and I loved it. We spent about 16 months writing songs, and at the end of it pulled the best and added them to several tunes I penned solo. I asked several of my talented friends to give life to the music, and about 16 months after that we had True North completed.
Are any of the songs dedications?
Not officially. Unofficially, Bury Me In The Sky is for my grandmother Josephine, Daughter is for my mom, True North is for my sister, and Jump On is for everybody who knows they should be doing something else.
People who are interested in should consider this download.
