Details:
âThat Gumbo Soundâ Often said to come from a mixture of different ingredients enjoined to create one style, sound or form of music. While the origin of âThat Gumbo Musicâ is one that shares the likeness of Soul, the swagger of Blues, The consciousness of Roots Reggae, It is purely Hip Hop. To call the music gumbo is just to say that one has many influences. When you look at the food that is known as gumbo, note that it is the preparation of purpose of, and the necessity of a thing that determines its level of importance. The ingredients that make up gumbo are placed into an already existing base to create an effect, while the base ingredient remains in the mix. It is what was added that makes the original more prevalent and tasty.

T
he Gumbo Music originated in the mid southwestern part of the country (the red river region of Oklahoma and Texas) when a crew known as Basu Empire began to merge their talents and efforts to demonstrate to there peers in the rap game that they possessed their own identity and could be contenders for all mcâs. They quickly developed a campaign that exceeded the bounds of just music. Southern rap was beginning to dominate new markets and that would allow them to reach national audiences, but Prauf was just now beginning to spread the BASU (Business As Usual) Gospel. There was never any formula to speak of that would allow the mcâs on this small corner of the map access to the type of media they needed to reach out to the supporting cities simultaneously, so the music had to be extra special .Since the message of self-awareness has been under taught in the bible belt for years Prauf made a statement in his music and performances that spoke to diversity which gave the locals that âwe are the last link in the chain and we have much to conquerâ spirit. Suddenly Prauf found himself at the spearhead of the BASU Movement and people began to take notice. While the southern swagger and altruistic approach to talking about struggle and relationships has a lyrical approach that may not be new to some: every one should know that Praufâs Gumbo recipe contains ingredients that could have only come from the base and the native soil of hip hop. That being said it is important to mention that just as it is with the gumbo dish, there will always be more than one way to prepare and present the main course. In closing here is some history on gumbo; with the exception of boasting that the new is better than the original; this is the perfect analogy of what you can expect from the artist known as âPraufâ and his label BASU EMPIRE RECORDS
History & Legends of Gumbo
When the first French settlers came to Louisiana, they brought their love for bouillabaisse, a highly seasoned fish stew. Having none of the usual ingredients necessary to make a typical French bouillabaisse, they substituted local ingredients. After about a century, with the Spanish, Africans, and Natives of the region offering their contributions of food, the stew was no longer recognizable as bouillabaisse and became gumbo. What started out as second best became better than the original. The word gumbo is derived from African words for okra (guingombo, tchingombo, and kingombo), a pod-like vegetable introduced by African slaves and often used to thicken the stew. There is only one rule that remains constant in making gumbo: First you make a roux. The roux, which acts as a thickening agent, is the gumbo's base. There are no other hard-and-fast rules for the ingredients used in making gumbo
