Jeremy Sklar, the lead singer, guitarist and songwriter for FINGER FOR THE MOON, lives in the Silverlake district of Los Angeles, but is originally from Chicago. He moved out here two years ago to try to do a crazy thing:
Make music, and then make a movie that the album will serve as a soundtrack to. The album "wasted holiday" is complete. He is currently working on the screenplay for "wasted holiday" the movie. Think along the lines of movies where one musical artist serves as sort of the unconscious life of the lead character, usually a misfit like in "Harold and Maude" (Cat Stevens for Bud Cort) or "The Graduate" (Simon and Garfunkle for Dustin Hoffman.) Or more recently Aimee Mann's inspired music for P.T. Anderson's "Magnolia."
Anyways, that's the dream. Now, more about the album:
finger for the moon's WASTED HOLIDAY
Tells the abstract story of a young man experiencing a nervous break down ("shaking") while sitting in the park with his mother on a lovely spring day.
He dreams of escaping by train ("locomotive") to a time where life was simpler. But stuck in his life, he writes a love letter to his far away girlfriend about his fears of the future ("bad signs").
He dreams he becomes famous ("the latest rage") yet even in his dream he self destructs under the constant scrutiny of the fickle public who long for the latest trend.
His parents take him and his girlfriend skiing to try to help him relax, but out on the slopes, he skies out of bounds.("Health-don't get lost without me").
While out in the wilderness, he can't seem to get a line from a Bruce Lee movie out of his head, until he suddenly realizes its true meaning ("finger for the moon.") He then fights his way down the mountain, if just to see his girlfriend one more time, remembering the times, good and sad, that they've had together ("wasted holiday pts I II & III").
He makes it down, yet he is no longer the same boy. He is here and not here. ("gone")
