In 1996 in Northampton, MA, songwriting duo Ginny Weave and Brendan Lynch formed Star Ghost Dog just to fight off summer blahs. Bouyed by the positive response to their 6-song demo tape and bored by the relentless charm of Western Massachusetts, they packed pup their gear and moved to Boston. There, they found drummer Tom Green and began playing out in oston, eventually catching the ears of local label, Catapult Records. The trio recorded their debut CD, Happylove, in five crazy days in the fall of 1997. When Tom left the band, Ginny and Brendan quickly recruited veteran drummer Chris Foley (formerly of Trynin and punk legends SSD). For good measure, they added bassist Owen Burkett (ex-Incinerator) to the lineup, which allowed Ginny and Brendan to share guitar duties. The new four-piece setup created a much more dynamic live band and allowed them to, well, rock.

The successes of Happylove and the bandâs electrifying live shows have rapidly turned Star Ghost Dog into a much talked-about sensation in Boston, where they now play to sold-out crowds and were voted 1st runner up for Best New Local Act in the 1998 Boston Phoenix Best Music Poll. Nationally, they are also catching fire; Happylove spent three months on the CMJ charts, peaking at #57, and has met with extensive critical praise in the music press.

Star Ghost Dog has shared the bill with a number of spiffy rock faves such as Letter to Cleo, Jack Drag, Fuzzy Syrup USA, The Swirlies, Cake Like, Pest 5000, and Jen Trynin. Theyâll be touring the east coast and beyond in support of the new record and look for a brand new single on Scientific Records this fall.
