The UMOJAH band emerged on the V.I. (United States Virgin Islands) scene in the early eighties. playing first at school and community events and later to packed houses in clubs, and in live concerts. Over the years UMOJAH has created and continues to create a repertoire of original UMOJAH hits as well as popular reggae cover songs. Originally and always the heart of the reggae movement of the Virgin Islands; The UMOJAH band is heartically, culturally and rootically potent again bringing the real sounds of the Ras's â love, truth and justice to people universally.
The core of the UMOJAH band; Ras-Lenn (songwriter and lead vocals) and his brother Ras-Babs (rhythm guitar and keyboards); are foundation members and have been writing, arranging and performing together for the life of the band.
UMOJAH performs one of todays liveliest and captivating Roots, Reggae and Culture stage shows, with Ras-Lenn's lead singing delivered with the vigor and timing of a drummer. Their universal music provides the bridge between yesterday and tomorrow, appealing to audiences and bringing the musical message of the day. With feet planted firmly, and voices that touch and empower hearts and minds far and wide UMOJAH is the VI's pioneer reggae band that has paved the way for current VI reggae acts.
Their first single 'Rebel' from the debut album "Sounds of The Innocent" stayed on the V.I. charts for months, by popular demand of station listeners. From the same album there were hits like 'Who Lock The Door' and 'Summer Time', both local favorites.
This second album release entitled "Bless Already" has produced one of their biggest hit singles 'We Run Dance' which ranked number one on the local reggae music scene. Their latest single from the same album 'Best of Me' is currently rocking the V.I. radio waves with much acclaim from listeners.
Umojah is currently making arrangements, to target markets; for live performances in Europe, the Virgin Islands, the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, selected United States Cities and the Pacific Islands.
