A singer-songwriter whose wry ballads, upbeat travelin' songs, and post-modern downers reflect both 60s and 70s traditional country and contemporary Americana.

COUNTRY: Alt-Country, ROCK: Country-Rock
Details:
Andrea Peterman was born in Minnesota and grew up moving around the Midwest and the mountains of Montana. By her early 20s, she had road-tripped all across North America, from Tijuana to Bangor, from Anchorage to the Florida Keys, and had earned a music degree from Northwestern University. Later, day jobs paid the way in New York and Los Angeles, where Andrea tested her vocal skills in musical theater, jazz and pop, and acted in theater and film.
Though she took years of piano lessons, it wasnât until she picked up a guitar and learned a few chords that she wrote her first song. It took 20 minutes and what came out was along the lines of traditional country. âAs a kid, I listened to a lot of AM country radio in the car with my dad,â she states, âit must have made an impression.â
Influenced by her dadâs Buck Owens albums, her momâs folk albums, her love of roots music, and her travels across North America, Andreaâs music is both reminiscent of the songs she grew up on and resonant of contemporary Americana. Her wry ballads have the flavor of 60s and 70s classic country, her upbeat travellinâ songs lean toward California folk-rock, and her post-modern downers have a tinge of the Cowboy Junkies and Neko Case.
While living in Los Angeles, Andrea played regularly with her band The Alternators. She recently relocated to Seattle.
